What We Can Repair — and What We Cannot
At 562 eBikes, one of the most common questions we hear is:
"Can you repair my e-bike?"
The answer depends on what needs to be repaired.
The good news is that e-bike designs are not rocket science. Most electric bicycles use standard bicycle components, and the mechanical side of the bike is very similar regardless of brand. However, the electrical system is a completely different story.
Mechanical Repairs: We Can Help
We can repair most common mechanical issues on nearly all brands of e-bikes, including:

Flat tires and tube replacement

Brake adjustments and brake replacement

Chains and drivetrains

Gear and derailleur adjustments

These components are largely based on standard bicycle industry designs and are generally interchangeable between many brands.
Electrical Repairs Are Different
When it comes to electrical diagnostics and repairs, we generally service only the brands we carry because we have access to genuine replacement parts, technical information, warranty support, and manufacturer resources.

Why Can't Electrical Parts Simply Be Swapped?
Many customers assume that if two parts look identical, they should work together.
Unfortunately, that's rarely the case.
Although most e-bikes share similar technology, manufacturers often use their own electrical configurations.
For example:

Controllers may have identical voltage and wattage ratings but use different communication protocols.

Wire colors often do not match from one manufacturer to another.

Connectors may look identical while being wired differently internally.

Displays often require specific firmware to communicate with the controller.

Motors may use different hall sensor configurations or pin assignments.
-
Batteries may have the same voltage but different Battery Management Systems (BMS), communication methods, discharge limits, or connector polarity.
A simple-looking replacement can easily become incompatible.
Even a Charger Can Become a Safety Issue
Many people assume that if the connector fits, the charger is safe to use.
Unfortunately, that's not true.
Before using a replacement charger, we must verify:

Battery voltage

Charger output voltage

Charging current

Connector type

Connector polarity

Manufacturer specifications
Using the wrong charger can damage the battery, shorten its lifespan, create a fire hazard, or permanently damage the battery management system.
For us, "it plugs in" is never enough.
Generic Parts Sometimes Work...
...but sometimes they don't.
A generic controller, motor, display, or battery may be compatible with another brand.
Think of it like automotive parts.
Sometimes a Toyota part can be adapted to work on a Honda. Other times it cannot. Even when it can, determining compatibility may require hours of testing, rewiring, programming, and troubleshooting.
An experienced hobbyist may enjoy spending an entire afternoon figuring out the correct wiring, programming the display, matching communication protocols, and testing every function.
A professional repair shop cannot reasonably bill customers for many hours of experimental work with no guarantee of success.
From a business standpoint, it simply isn't economically practical.
What About Battery Upgrades?
Battery modifications deserve special attention.
Installing a third-party battery often involves changing connectors, modifying wiring, bypassing manufacturer designs, or adapting mounting systems.
Even when technically possible, these modifications introduce additional safety and liability concerns.
Our insurance carrier has specifically advised us not to perform battery modifications or install incompatible third-party battery systems on customer bicycles.
For that reason, we only install batteries that are approved or intended for the specific bike whenever possible.
We Modify Our Own Bikes—But Not Customer Bikes
Like many e-bike enthusiasts, we enjoy experimenting with our own personal bikes.
We've installed aftermarket components, upgraded controllers, tested displays, experimented with different motors, and learned a tremendous amount through personal projects.
Working on our own bikes is part of the hobby.
Working on a customer's bicycle is very different.
When we repair a customer's bike, we have a responsibility to provide a repair that is safe, reliable, and professionally supported. That means using compatible components, following manufacturer specifications whenever possible, and avoiding modifications that could compromise safety or create liability for the customer—or for our business.
Our Goal Is Reliable Repairs
Our objective isn't simply to make a bike run today and get paid.
Our goal is to return your e-bike in a condition that we can confidently stand behind.
That's why we're happy to repair mechanical issues on most e-bikes, while limiting electrical repairs to brands we support with genuine parts and technical resources.
We believe this approach provides the safest, most reliable, and most cost-effective service for our customers.
